Kats & Domer Present Almost Fameless Vol. 3
With retro inspired beats and lyrics that shine, on Almost Fameless Vol. 3 Kats and Domer have created an interesting blend of jazz and modern hip-hop that takes a humble approach to mixing complex beats with impressive rhymes.
If you’re looking for something mellow, hypnotic, or soothing, the production on Almost Fameless Vol. 3 will not disappoint. The contemporary subject matter and styles of rapping, however, don’t always go hand in hand with the smooth retro beats. Kats and Domer’s rhyming eclipses the production at times, which creates an interesting and unique sound that actually works quite well for most of the album, specifically on tracks such as “Heavy Rain” feat. Ryan O’Neil, “All We Need” feat. Scholarman, “Shut It Down” feat. 8th W1, and “Swayze.” On some of the other tracks, though, the beat is either so repetitive that it is hypnotic and does not compliment the lyrics, or is so distracting that it diminishes the overall impact of Kats and Domer’s clever rhymes.
In the end, Kats and Domer’s Almost Fameless Vol. 3 will give you a soulful sound and mellow feeling, even if the cohesion of lyrics and production may not be a perfect marriage.
