Trailing Skates in the Dark

At Lia Halloran's second exhibit here in New York, she translates action into trails of light through time-lapsed photographs. Halloran sports a bicycle light while riding on her skateboard to create these luminous paths. "Dark Skate" captures light in the bleak playgrounds in and around the recesses of the west coast.

All of her photographs depict the luminous paths of her own late night skating escapades in Los Angeles. Halloran brings forth the gritty elegance of the urban backdrop. The trails of light only appear in the photos as an eerie afterthought. In "Pasadena Hill", the park almost appears haunted. The light seems like a mystical presence hovering over the ramp. All of her photos seem to depict the essence of this ever evasive, anonymous skateboarder.

The scribbles of light write their tale in the night. Lia Halloran has a way of adjoining her love for skateboarding and photography to catch movements and moments.
