Croom describes It Hates You as the “definitive He Is Legend record,” combining the polished, studio sound of I Am Hollywood with the raw, live quality of SOTP. The album is heavy as hell, conjuring the days when rock ‘n’ roll was about being larger than life, like Led Zeppelin standing in front of their personal jet. But Croom insists the band’s goals are more grounded. “I think that part of rock ‘n’ roll is long gone. You gotta use a vocoder and have pop beats to do that these days,” he says. “Not that I wouldn’t get on Lil Weezy’s bus and like, roll with him because I totally would.”
