Reading is FUNdamental with Thurston Moore

thurston1Thurston Moore has already founded the record label, Ecstatic Peace!, which has released albums by Be Your Own Pet, Magik Markers and The Entrance Band, but he’s ready to add another skill to his repertoire: publisher. Moore is launching Ecstatic Peace Library, his very own boutique publishing house.

Not that it’s too far fetched since the Sonic Youther has already co-wrote art and photo books like Abby Banks' Punk House: Interiors in Anarchy and Michael Lavine's upcoming Grunge. He is also the author of Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture and No Wave: Post Punk. Underground. New York.

According to the L.A. Times, this past weekend, catalogs of Ecstatic Peace Library's first releases were distributed at the New York Art Book Fair. The rest of us will have to wait until New Year’s Day where they will announce the rest of the releases on the Ecstatic Peace Library website.

Right now, Moore is planning to release books from wife and bandmate Kim Gordon, punk rock brutalist (and Goo cover artist) Raymond Pettibon, and 1991: The Year Punk Broke director Dave Markey. The books will come with recordings by the authors and be distributed through D.A.P/ Distributed Art Publishers.

In the meantime Moore is touring with Sonic Youth with the band appearing on the October 12th episode of Gossip Girl. Yep, Gossip Girl.
