Transformers 2 Doing Well Despite Reviews
Despite poor reviews, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen still managed to dominate the box office after its first showing last Thursday at midnight.
Michael Bay’s newest creation, starring Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox, grossed an estimated $60.6 million on its opening day alone. The film is set to shoot even higher up on the number charts, and, depending on the loyalty of its fan base and its ability to sway in new viewers, could even find itself in the record books by the end of this week.
One of those records is potentially becoming the second biggest opening film in cinematic history. After its estimated $60.6 million opening day, the film is believed to have grossed $104.8 million by that Saturday alone. And, if numbers continue to surge, Revenge of the Fallen is projected to hit the $200 million mark in just five days.
The only other film to reach those kinds of numbers that fast was last summer’s blockbuster The Dark Knight, which grossed a staggering $203.5 million in just five days. Although upcoming competition like Fourth of July weekend’s Ice Age III and the mega-anticipated Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, which is on schedule to open in a couple of weeks, will certainly rock Revenge of the Fallen’s numbers, there seems to be no end in sight for how much destruction this film is capable of.
