Avenue Q to Close in September
After a six year run and several Tony Awards, "Avenue Q" will close September 13th at the John Golden Theatre. The musical began its Broadway run in July of 2003, and went on to win best musical a year later.
Based on the book by Jeff Whitty, with music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, the comedic, Sesame Street-inspired story follows a mix of young adult puppets and live characters as they search for purpose, and sing their woes in melodies like, “The Internet is for Porn.”
As of June 21, the musical has grossed $117,009,852 and when it closes, "Avenue Q" will have played 2,534 performances, according to Playbill.com.
